How RV Travel Brings the Whole Family Together

In a time in history where electronics are king, Facetime is one word, and the outdoors are considered a primitive thing of the past, American’s need an outlet for family bonding.  Many long for the days of simply going out and having a catch with dad after work, brothers meeting friends for a pickup game of basketball at the park, or friends meeting at the fishing hole after school.  How can the modern family possibly continue to bond with one another in such a high paced, digital world driven by the newest, best, highest technology?

Balancing the Budget

Conventionally, families would go on vacations together to get away, see sights never before seen, have experiences, and bond together.  However, with the COVID-19 pandemic still looming and cost of travel continuing to rise, it is becoming harder to get away.  As it turns out, there is a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel in the form of, you guessed it, RVs!

According to the RV Industry Association, a study performed by CBRE Hotels Advisory Group through Go RVing and the RV Industry Association found that RV travel, even after factoring in gas prices, was substantially less expensive for a two to four person travel party, saving 8-53% and 21-64% respectively.  Obviously, costs varied depending on the destination and type of RV unit.  You can find the entire article and data presentation, including a full breakdown by unit traveled here.

Real Time Education

In addition to the budgetary benefits, families who have embraced the full time RV lifestyle say that, though challenges exist, even during the challenges in the first year, pros end up outweighing the cons.  A 2019 article published by REI Co-Op looked at 5 separate, full-time RV families living the RV lifestyle.  Overwhelmingly, one of the biggest perks was allowing the kids to learn about geography in person rather than in a text book, all while spending quality family time together.

Home Away From Home

RVing also allows families to experience something new, even if its not full time, all while enjoying the comforts and safety of a home away from home.  An August 2020 article from CNN Travel investigated the new rise in RV sales, reasons for the boom, and spoke with a number of families who decided the time was right to take the leap.  Particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic when the CDC warned that increased travel may increase the risk of spreading or contracting the virus, American Families became tired of being stuck inside in one place.  According to the CNN piece, American’s wanted a way to travel, experience the world, and still be able to maintain their social distance when desired.

Regardless of your reasoning, RV travel can be a great thing for families in a time when new experiences can be few and far between.  If you are interested in investigating what it would take for you to get into the RV life, give us a call at 765-878-CAMP or come by and see us.
